Handbook of Bosniak Studies — Chapter Proposals

Call for the Handbook of Bosniak Studies Chapter Proposals

The Bosniak Studies Association invites chapter proposals for the first Bosniak Studies Handbook. The general handbook theme is:

"Bosniaks: Past, Present, and Future of a Southeastern European Nation"

📅 Deadline for chapter proposal abstracts: Wednesday, April 15, 2026
Submit proposals to: Mkrijest@fiu.edu

Interest in the Bosniak nation rose globally during the 1990s deconstruction of the former Yugoslavia, because of the attempts by neighboring Serbian and Croatian states to capture Bosnia and Herzegovina and eliminate Bosniaks as its main population. Despite that increased attention and the fact that the Bosniak nation has been living in the wider Southeastern European region as long as all other local peoples and playing an active role in shaping local realities, there is no systematic and comprehensive book properly presenting this nation to a wider audience. That is why this handbook aims to bring together scholars and researchers in various fields and disciplines to introduce the Bosniak nation in all its manifestations, across time and space to all audiences.

We encourage all who are interested in all fields of studies to submit their proposals no later than April 15, 2026, to: Mkrijest@fiu.edu

How We Evaluate Your Proposals

Evaluation by Editors

Your proposal will be examined closely by the editors, who will consider several questions: Does the content of this chapter meet a high academic standard? Does it sufficiently introduce and describe the subject under discussion? If the editors find the work acceptable, then the proposal will be accepted – with or without editors' notes and suggestions.

This process should take 4–5 weeks. While the review may take longer, our self-imposed deadline for responses to submissions is April 30, 2026.

Once enough abstracts are accepted, the editors will compile a written proposal for the book, including your proposal.

The deadline to submit final papers is November 30, 2026.

The Book Production Timeline

Once the book proposal is accepted, we will issue a draft contract provided by the publisher.

We expect the book to be published at some time during 2027, depending on contributors' timely responses and the efficacy of the editorial process.

⚠️ Reminder: The deadline for submission of proposals is April 15, 2026.
We look forward to receiving your contributions.
